Individual Therapy

Your Personalized Path To Healing And Growth

Individual therapy is a collaborative journey between you and a trained therapist, focused entirely on your unique experiences, challenges, and goals. In our one-on-one sessions, you’ll have a confidential space to explore what’s happening in your life without having to consider anyone else’s needs or perspectives. At Stone Counseling, I offer specialized individual therapy for adults who are ready to understand themselves more deeply, heal from past wounds, and create meaningful change.

My Philosophy

I believe all people have the capacity to heal, change, and find meaning—even when it doesn’t feel possible right now. I see myself as a guide and facilitator, helping you reconnect with your own natural ability to do this. Therapy is a safe space for you to share your story, explore what you’re carrying, and experiment with new ways of being in the world.

I also believe that most struggles in the present are connected to unresolved issues from the past. Whether it’s trauma, grief, or early relational wounds, these unfinished pieces often shape how we experience life today. By identifying and gently working through these underlying issues, we can bring about the healing and change you’re looking for.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach draws on many different theories and evidence-based practices. I am EMDRIA certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also incorporate ideas and techniques from attachment-based therapy, somatic approaches, and other modalities into my work with clients.

My specialized training and clinical focus is primarily on trauma and grief. Both of these areas create a lens through which I see and understand all client situations. I’ve come to believe that many of the problems that bring people into therapy have some connection to unresolved trauma and/or grief—even when it’s not immediately obvious.

For example, if you came to therapy wanting to work on anxiety, we would explore your history together to understand where the anxiety started. Often what we discover is that the roots of the anxiety are wrapped around some type of unresolved trauma or grief. These issues might be related to “big” traumas or losses—or they might not be. You might not even know that you’ve experienced trauma or loss at all. But when we figure out what those underlying issues are and address them, the anxiety typically resolves naturally.

This same approach applies to depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, and many other concerns. By addressing what’s underneath the presenting problem, we create lasting change rather than just managing symptoms.

What to Expect

The First Session

In our first session, we’ll get to know each other and talk about what’s bringing you to therapy. We’ll discuss your history, what you’re struggling with, and what you’re hoping to accomplish. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and see if we feel like a good fit. There’s no pressure to commit—finding the right therapist is important, and I want you to feel comfortable.

The Therapy Process

After our initial session, we’ll work together to create a plan that makes sense for you. For trauma-related concerns, we often start by building a foundation of safety and coping skills before moving into deeper processing work. Establishing safety and stability is essential groundwork that makes all other work safer and more effective.

The pace and direction of therapy is always collaborative. You’re never pressured to talk about things you’re not ready to address, and you always have a say in what we focus on. My job is to provide guidance, support, and specialized tools—your job is to show up as honestly as you can and trust the process.

Beyond Symptom Management

As we work together, you’ll likely notice shifts not just in your symptoms, but in how you relate to yourself and others. Many clients describe feeling more grounded, more compassionate toward themselves, and more capable of experiencing joy and connection. Healing isn’t just about reducing what hurts—it’s about reclaiming the life you were meant to live.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if individual therapy is right for me?

If something is affecting your daily life, relationships, or sense of wellbeing—whether it’s trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, or feeling stuck—individual therapy can help. The best way to know is to schedule a consultation call where we can talk about your specific situation.

How long does therapy take?

It varies. Some people benefit from shorter-term work (a few months), while deeper trauma processing often takes longer. We’ll check in regularly about your progress, and you’re always free to end therapy when you feel ready.

What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work?

Many people have had disappointing experiences with therapy—often because they didn’t find the right fit or weren’t receiving specialized care when that’s what they needed. Past experiences don’t predict future ones. We can talk about what didn’t work before and approach things differently this time.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes, with limited exceptions required by law (immediate risk of harm, child abuse, or court orders). Confidentiality is foundational to building trust in therapy.

Ready to Begin?

Taking the first step toward therapy takes courage. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, or simply feeling disconnected from the life you want to live, you don’t have to navigate this alone.
